Need-based financial aid program in the works for South Dakota

South Dakota is one of the only states that doesn’t offer a need-based financial aid program. The South Dakota Board of Regents has been working on a program, Dakota’s Promise, to change that. Dakota’s Promise is a five phase, state-funded aid program that could support 6,000 students once fully implemented. SDBOR has sent a recommendation to Gov. Dennis Daugaard to include the plan in the fiscal budget. Josh Sorbe, a Student Government Association senator, sponsored a recommendation in support of the plan. It was passed unanimously by SGA. A graduate of South Dakota School of Mines and Technology was named the school's 19th president. RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — A graduate of South Dakota School of Mines and Technology was named the school's 19th president. The South Dakota Board of Regents announced the appointment of Jim Rankin. Rankin grew up in Fort Pierre and graduated from SD Mines in 1978 with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. View original article.

Raffle tickets for this beautiful Pheasant Quilt are now on sale at the Chicago & NorthWestern Depot. This quilt commemorates the 100th anniversary of the first Pheasant hunt, October 30, 1919. Drawing will be held on December 14, 2019, at the Depot and you do not need to be present to win! Cost: $5.00 per ticket or a book of 5 tickets for $20.00. Proceeds will go toward the Kathy Maddox Model Train Project.
