Breaking News! Redfield Parks and Rec Discovers the Cure for Spring Fever
April 1, 2025
Symptoms of Spring Fever: Debating the merits of tossing your snow shovels over the nearest hillside, burning all of your sweaters, wanting to go for a swim as soon as it reaches 50 degrees, coming down with a bad case of Cabin Fever.
Side effects of Spring Fever: children bouncing off the walls, cravings for anything that can be grilled, a strong desire to fire up the lawn mower, tractor, and weed whacker.
Regardless of how mild or severe your symptoms are, the Redfield Park and Recreation Department has got your cure!
“Parks and Rec can help your case of Spring Fever with our wonderful parks!” said director Bennett Osborn.
Sign Up for the Fun!
”Spring will be in full swing in April. That is when people getting excited for summer activities can look to get signed up for the fun!” said Osborn.
Let’s check out some of the highlights:
The Hav-A-Rest Campground is back in business as of April 1, with 19 camping pads, two tent areas for anyone who fancies sleeping under the stars. It’s also a stone’s throw from the Redfield Lake boat dock and fishing pier and offers amenities like restrooms, water and electricity for those who enjoy a milder form of “roughing it.” Fees are $20 per night and reservations can be made online.
City/Packard Park: Sports enthusiasts can enjoy disk golf, the basketball court, softball fields and the walking/bike path along Turtle Creek. Don’t forget to take advantage of the three picnic shelters. “There is something for everyone!” said Osborn.
Centennial Park: “Centennial Park plays home to the Redfield Area Muskrats and the Redfield Pheasants Softball teams this spring. The park will be packed for home games!” said Osborn. Registration is now open for baseball and softball, which is transitioning from slow pitch to fast pitch!
“The start of the Redfield Softball League for the youth softball players, mimicking the Redfield Baseball League, will be launching this summer! It will be played on the same nights as the RBL and will be a great way for the girls to play a great game with their friends in front of the community,” said Osborn. “The 14U softball team will be playing in a newly founded league with teams in the area that are looking to get started with fastpitch as well. The Redfield Flickertails, the 14U baseball team, is also playing a big schedule this season and will look to make the State Tournament after falling just a game short in 2024.”
Even if watching your favorite person slide across home plate isn’t in the cards, you can still savor time spent in our beautiful park!
“Enjoy the tennis courts and playground here whether the home teams are playing or not!” said Osborn.
Stay Tuned!
And when it comes to sports, why should the kids have all the fun? We’ve got a hot tip for adults looking to hit a homer this season.
“Stay tuned for updates regarding adult co-ed softball later in the summer. I have been milling about ideas on how to get slowpitch softball going as an adult activity again, as it used to be quite popular. The plan is to do something that is low commitment for participants and will expose people who haven't played before to how much fun the game can be!” said Osborn.
